If emergency medical insurance is purchased while the insured is currently staying in Canada, a waiting period may apply. The waiting period in an insurance policy refers to a specific period of time during which coverage is not provided even if the policy becomes effective.

The waiting period can vary depending on the type of insurance and the specific terms of the policy ranging from 24 hours to 7 days.

Any medical condition, injury or sickness for which the insured has been

• showing/ shown symptoms,
• diagnosed with and received medical attention by a doctor,
• receiving/received treatment and medication, or
• as per the terms shown in the policy wording

before the date of departure can be considered as a pre-existing medical condition.

The criteria for providing coverage for pre-existing medical conditions is generally the medical stability period of the insured for 120 to 180 days prior to insurance start date. The amount of money paid by an insured/policyholder while claiming the costs under an insurance policy are termed as deductibles. These deductibles allow risk sharing between the insured and the insurance provider/ company.

Deductibles reduce the amount of premium to be paid by the insured. They can be either a specific dollar amount or a certain percentage that the insured agrees to pay out of pocket. These amounts can be selected at the time of purchasing the policy. We provide the insured an option to choose the deductibles between $0 to $10,000.

Example: If a policy holder purchases a medical policy with $25,000 coverage and $250 deductible. At the time of making a claim of medical expenses worth $5000, the policyholder will have to pay the $250 deductible and the remaining $ 4,750 will be covered by the insurance company as per the policy.
